With its rich history of malachite, also possesses numerous physical properties. The color of malachite is bright green with a light green streak. It can also be mallow green and sometimes has darker and lighter shades of green. With a hardness of 3.5 to 4.0 on the Mohs scale, it has a specific gravity of 3.6 to 4.0. Malachite is usually opaque and can have a subtle sheen surface. It’s often found as crystalline aggregates or crusts and can be banded in appearance. Malachite is insoluble in water and ethanol.
