Pietersite Meaning, History, Benefits, Healing Properties and Caring

Pietersite is an interesting, murky, chalcedony mineral that is known for its striking tones and “cat’s eye” impact. It’s mined in China and Namibia and is used as a decorative stone. Sometimes, it is often confused with tiger’s eye or hawk’s eye, but it’s not a brecciated form of either. Instead, its chatoyancy comes from crocodolite, a shared mineral. Sid Pieters discovered pietersite in 1962 while prospecting for farmland in Namibia, Africa. Pieters named the stone after his father, Louis Pieters, to immortalize his memory. He registered his discovery in the mineral records of Britain. His discovery was published in 1964. Because of its swirling colors that resemble a storm, pietersite is also known as tempest stone.
